Up until recently, the most common ultrasound in pregnancy gives a 2D image that shows a grey, blurry outline of the foetus. Technology now allows us to provide ultrasound in pregnancy in 3D and 4D.
3D baby scans are still pictures of your baby in three dimensions, like the photos you sometimes see in newspapers and magazines. 4D baby scans (with time as the fourth dimension) are videos – real time moving 3D images of the baby.
The 3D and 4D baby scans have a great psychological and social value and provide the perfect bonding experience, especially for dads who don’t actually get the sensation of the baby kicking and moving about inside of them. These pictures represent the first impressions of an individual, both as a keepsake for the parents and as a record of the young people as they grow.
3D/4D scans also assist the doctor’s work, because they show more detail from different angles. They can therefore help in the diagnosis of cleft lip, cleft palate or other anomalies with your baby. Knowing in advance is always helpful and prepares the parents for the birth of their child.
The best time to have a 3D or 4D private baby scan is when you are between 22 and 34 weeks pregnant (between 22 and 24 weeks if you are carrying two or more babies). This is because the baby is not too big then and there is enough amniotic fluid around the baby to allow movement. The baby scan takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the baby’s position.
Our prices start from £120
